Ex-archaeology grad student turned international antiquities thief, Alix—better known now as Owl—has one rule. No supernatural jobs. Ever. Until she crosses paths with Mr. Kurosawa, a red dragon who owns and runs the Japanese Circus Casino in Las Vegas. He insists Owl retrieve an artifact stolen three thousand years ago, and makes her an offer she can’t refuse: he’ll get rid of a pack of vampires that want her dead. A dragon is about the only entity on the planet that can deliver on Owl’s vampire problem – and let’s face it, dragons are known to eat the odd thief.

Owl retraces the steps of Mr. Kurosawa’s ancient thief from Japan to Bali with the help of her best friend, Nadya, and an attractive mercenary. As it turns out though, finding the scroll is the least of her worries. When she figures out one of Mr. Kurosawa’s trusted advisors is orchestrating a plan to use a weapon powerful enough to wipe out a city, things go to hell in a hand basket fast…and Owl has to pick sides.

What makes a great adventure story? A great main character, and to have that character be a young woman made Owl and the Japanese Circus that much better for me. This book has it all, action, adventure, a strong female main character (with flaws) and a pinch of the paranormal. And by pinch I mean a lot but for me it didn't seem to be that much until I stopped and thought about it. But more on that later. Lets focus on Owl, our main character. She was an amazing heroine to read. She was fierce, and strong and extremely independent. But what I think I loved that most was that she was not perfect. She still needed help from her friends, she was horrible at dealing with her feelings for a certain character, and she made a lot of mistakes.

Owl's relationships in this book drive the plot forward more than the mystery and adventure. I honestly think I was more interested in the human factor than solving the mystery. I loved Owls friendship with Nadya. It was so complex with issue in trust and honesty rocking them back and forth at every turn. Nadya was such a great character to contradict Owl because Nadya was steady and trustworthy and had an incredible ability to hack into any computer, which came in very handy at times during this story. I also really liked Owls relationship or lack thereof with Rynn. Rynn is a soth of side note in this book. Most people wont like him because he really doesn't do much...yet. I can see this character having many books, so if the author writes more for Owl I hope that Rynn gets a bigger role because he brings out the best in Owl, and most of the time she doesn't even know its happening. I know many people didn't like Rynn since they were more interested in the adventure part of the story but I really liked him and his relationship with Owl. It was extremely slow moving but it made sense for her character and it was as realistic as it could have been written.

Ok, now onto the book itself and the story. This book is first and foremost an action adventure story, with Owl trying to find a lost artifact for a very powerful Casino owner. What I think I loved was that the author did not shy away from what this book will be compared to...Indiana Jones. There are so many similarities that you really cant avoid it. That is why most people are saying this is the Indiana Jane of Fiction. The author embraced her predecessor and brought in great anecdotes from the movies that just made this book so much more hilarious to read. Earlier I said that this book read like a light paranormal book, and that is because this book read like a straight adventure book. I never felt overwhelmed with creatures or anything like that. I just felt like this was the way the world was, and it felt no different to me than a contemporary read. The author did an amazing job making it seem like Vampires and Dragons were normal, and that creatures that take possession of someone else s skin was normal. This is what made this book so fantastic. I will admit there were some instances in the middle where the story became a bit dry and I wanted more action to happen, but overall this book was a pleasure to read from start to finish. I will definitely read more from this author in the future, and I hope that she writes more about Owl because shes bad ass and deserves more adventures!

The New York Times bestselling author of Before I Fall and the Delirium trilogy makes her brilliant adult debut with this mesmerizing story in the tradition of The Lovely Bones, Her Fearful Symmetry, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane—a tale of family, ghosts, secrets, and mystery, in which the lives of the living and the dead intersect in shocking, surprising, and moving ways .

Wealthy Richard Walker has just died, leaving behind his country house full of rooms packed with the detritus of a lifetime. His estranged family—bitter ex-wife Caroline, troubled teenage son Trenton, and unforgiving daughter Minna—have arrived for their inheritance.

But the Walkers are not alone. Prim Alice and the cynical Sandra, long dead former residents bound to the house, linger within its claustrophobic walls. Jostling for space, memory, and supremacy, they observe the family, trading barbs and reminiscences about their past lives. Though their voices cannot be heard, Alice and Sandra speak through the house itself—in the hiss of the radiator, a creak in the stairs, the dimming of a light bulb.

The living and dead are each haunted by painful truths that will soon surface with explosive force. When a new ghost appears, and Trenton begins to communicate with her, the spirit and human worlds collide—with cataclysmic results.

Elegantly constructed and brilliantly paced, Rooms is an enticing and imaginative ghost story and a searing family drama that is as haunting as it is resonant.

Rooms is Lauren Oliver's first ever Adult Fiction novel and I have to say that she can do no wrong. I am always weary when a YA author goes into Adult Fiction, or vise versa, but with Rooms, Lauren put together a story that was so essentially Lauren that I could not help but keep reading until the very end.

Rooms follows the Walker family when their father dies and have to go to his house and clean it out. What I loved the most about this book was the different POVs. We not only see the entire Walker family that includes 2 kids, 1 grand kid and one alcoholic mother, but we also get to see things through the eyes of the two house ghosts. I think I liked those two perspectives the most because they saw everything about this family, even the things they tried to hide.

This family is far from perfect. And I think that is what most people who read this book are going to relate to because seriously, what family is perfect. But I think dysfunction goes out the window on this one. There are some serious issues with these characters and reading about them was really great entertainment. Trenton, the only son of this crazy family was my favorite because he was the only one who had no real memories of his father. And i think he had the most to loose in this situation and he was the one who had the most connection with the house and those that are within it.

My only issue with this book was the pacing. At times I felt like not much was happening, and then there were times, especially when it came to the ghosts living in the house, that we got too much information on something I felt didn't matter as much as other things. I felt like we got too much background info on the ghosts and not enough background on the actual family, and that was something i wish was different. I liked seeing how dysfunctional the family was and how they would get over losing their father and dealing with problems that seemed to persists even after years of separation.

Overall, Rooms was a very interesting book to read. It was very different from a lot of the books I have read recently. Lauren's writing was brilliant as always but I felt like that characterization was a bit off and I wish we got to know the Walker family a bit more then we actually did. This book is for lovers of ghost stories with a hint of family drama. A satisfying read.

The amazing Stephanie Evanovich returns with The Sweet Spot, the sizzling story of everyone’s favorite couple from her New York Times bestseller Big Girl Panties: hunky professional baseball player Chase Walker and his sassy wife Amanda

When pro baseball player Chase Walker first meets Amanda at her restaurant, it’s love at first sight. While Amanda can’t help noticing the superstar with the Greek-god-build, he doesn’t have a chance of getting to first—or any other—base with her. A successful entrepreneur who’s built her business from scratch, Amanda doesn’t need a Prince Charming to sweep her off her feet. And a curvy girl who likes to cook and eat isn’t interested in being around the catty, stick-thin herd of females chasing Chase and his teammates.

But Chase isn’t about to strike out. A man who isn’t interested in playing the field, he’s a monogamist who wants an independent woman like Amanda. His hopes rally when she discovers that squeaky-clean Chase has a few sexy and very secret pre-game rituals that turn the smart, headstrong businesswoman on—and into his number one fan.

Then a tabloid discovers the truth and turns their spanking good fun into a late- night punch-line. Is Amanda ready to let loose and swing for the fences? Or will the pressure of Chase’s stardom force them to call it quits?

For me, liking a book means that I remember what happens in the plot weeks after I have read it. And so when I go to write a review of a book that I read a few weeks ago and don't remember much about the plot means that I probably didn't like it as much as others, and unfortunately The Sweet Spot is one of those books.

Although I don't remember this book is detail, I do remember certain things I did and did not like. For example I remember I did like the overall conflict of the book and how real it felt and I honestly felt like it could happen to anyone. But sadly that was pretty much all I liked about this book.

Characters are a large apart of my enjoyment of a book and with this one I felt no connectio whatsoever to any of them. I felt like they were very 2 dimentional and therefore I had no emotiona stake is wjhat they were doing or what was happening to them. I also a big fan of characters showing us who they are what what is happening to them, but in this instance there was way too much telling for me to stay interested.

The romance. Because this is a romance novel I expected some great romantic scenes and maybe some sexy times, but what I did not expect was the intsa-love (which I hate in YA and even more in adult) and the S & M action that came out of nowhere. And when I saw nowhere I mean I thought I was reading a cute romantic novel and then half way through it became all about ropes and spanking and all of that and i felt like I was reading a COMPLETELY different book! And to be honest, I felt like that part of the book was the weakest part. I didn't believe any of it and it felt very fake, like the author didn't do any actual research in the topic and just wanted to have it her book. I have read these types of scenes before and I know that there more details you have, usually the better it is for the reader. In this case I felt like the author glossed over so much and that made me question the scenes in general.

So overall this book was not what i expected and i felt a little confused at to what kind of romance this book was. The romance was too fast and the sex scenes were lackluster at best. I just wanted so much more than what I got.

On her nineteenth birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa. But though she may be inexperienced and sheltered, Kelsea is not defenseless: Around her neck hangs the Tearling sapphire, a jewel of immense magical power; and accompanying her is the Queen’s Guard, a cadre of brave knights led by the enigmatic and dedicated Lazarus. Kelsea will need them all to survive a cabal of enemies who will use every weapon—from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magic—to prevent her from wearing the crown.

Despite her royal blood, Kelsea feels like nothing so much as an insecure girl, a child called upon to lead a people and a kingdom about which she knows almost nothing. But what she discovers in the capital will change everything, confronting her with horrors she never imagined. An act of singular daring will throw Kelsea’s kingdom into tumult, unleashing the vengeance of the tyrannical ruler of neighboring Mortmesne: the Red Queen, a sorceress possessed of the darkest magic. Now Kelsea will begin to discover whom among the servants, aristocracy, and her own guard she can trust.

But the quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begun—a wondrous journey of self-discovery and a trial by fire that will make her a legend…if she can survive.

The Queen of the Tearling introduces readers to a world as fully imagined and terrifying as that of The Hunger Games, with characters as vivid and intriguing as those of The Game of Thrones, and a wholly original heroine. Combining thrilling action and twisting plot turns, it is a magnificent debut from the talented Erika Johansen.

Fantasy book can bet very hit and miss for me because I do not read it as much as I should. So when I saw that The Queen of Tearling was getting all kinds of buzz, and it was an adult read, which I need to read more of, I knew I had to pick it up and review it. And i am so glad I did because this book was perfection.

Since I have not read a lot Adult reads lately, I knew going into this book was going to be a interesting feat because I knew the writing would be more complex and the story itself would be more in depth and since it was Fantasy i knew that the details would be amazing therefore I knew that I would need to take my time with this read. And I was right. I read this book at a much slower pace than usual and I savored every word because the writing was absolutely to die for. The vivid descriptions and the characters interactions made for an amazing adventure and I loved every second.

Kelsea is our protagonist and she was a great character to read because although she did not grow up in a kingdom and everyone around her thought she was weak and would not last as their Queen, she proved them wrong. She grew to be a very fierce and independent character throughout the book. I also loved how we not only got to see through Kelsea's eyes but also through many different characters who made this book as amazing as it was. I think I loved this book so much not only because of the character but because of the world. I felt so connected with this world that although had some elements of our own, was still extremely different. I loved the setting and how much it affected the characters throughout the book.

Overall The Queen of Tearling was an amazing read. I seriously cannot say a bad word about it and would recommend it to everyone who not only loves fantasy but great writing as well. This is a perfect book for those young adults who want to stretch into the Adult Fiction world because Kelsea is only 19.This book is so perfect  for so many readers to discover this amazing book and it talented author. I cannot say how much I loved this book, I have no more words.

The stunning debut that began with Archetype— and has readers buzzing—concludes in Prototype, when a woman’s dual pasts lock onto a collision course, threatening her present and future.

Emma looks forward to the day when she can let go of her past—both of them. After more than a year on the run, with clues to her parents’ whereabouts within her grasp, she may finally find a place to settle down. Start a new life. Maybe even create new memories with a new family.

But the past rises to haunt her and to make sure there’s nowhere on the planet she can hide. Declan Burke wants his wife back, and with a little manipulation and a lot of reward money, he’s got the entire world on his side. Except for the one man she dreads confronting the most: Noah Tucker.

Emma returns to face what she’s done but finds that the past isn’t the problem. It’s the present—and the future it represents. Noah has moved on and another woman is raising their daughter.

In the shocking conclusion to M.D. Waters’s spectacular debut, Emma battles for her life and her freedom, tearing down walls and ripping off masks to reveal the truth. She’s decided to play their game and prove she isn’t the woman they thought she was. Even if it means she winds up dead. Or worse, reborn.

Reading a second book in a series can be a hard thing because sometimes you forget what happened in the first book and that takes away from sequel. What I think made Prototype so successful was the fact that it was released soon after the first book and also that the author helped us readers get back into the swing of things with helpful hints throughout the beginning of the book. Prototype was a very well done sequel and end to this innovative and amazing series that started with Archetype.

When I finished Archetype I fell in love with Emma's character, she was so independent and yet seriously flawed. And considering she is a clone, she had to deal with some aspects of life that none of the other characters had to deal with. And I was worried that when I started Prototype that I would not like her as much the second time around. But I am so happy to say that Emma is still a bad ass, and honestly she might be even more amazing in this second installment than the first book. She has so much more character development in this book, and part of that is the fact that Emma now knows exactly what she is, and what that means for her. And the Emma from the first book is very different from the Emma we see at the end of the book, and I loved reading her journey to acceptance of not only who she is, but who she is in terms of her new found family.

All the same characters from the first book appear in this book as well, Declan and Noah in particular. Since Emma ran away from Declan he is eager to get her back he will do anything in his power to get her back. I was a little disappointed at Declans character and the lack of change in his world view, but really what do you expect from a villian right? haha. Noah on the other hand has always been my favorite because of his myserious-ness and the fact that in my mind is he gorgeous. What I think I liked the most about Noah in this book was the fact that he grew a pair. He stood up for what he thought was right and he finally told us how he felt not only about Emma, but his past with the real Emma. The family aspect of this book was great to read as well. I loved reading Emma and her daughter throughout the book, it was not a perfect relationship, it never will be but it great to read none the less.

The conflict in Prototype was very different from the first book, and I thought it was really refreshing. Declan was still there wanting to get Emma back but there was also a lot of tension between Emma and another women who turns out to be with Noah and is raising her child. I loved this tension because it felt real and something we as readers could relate to, especially when we are surrounded by a world that is so unlike our own. Prototype was an amazing sequel and had a great ending that was not tied in a pretty bow but something real and something that worked for the characters. I recommend this series to anyone who loved science fiction and adventure. A must read for sure!

The series follows one of the most prestigious and wealthy families on the Upper East Side who have built their entire fortune on the business of diamonds.

Due to a clause the grandfather placed in his will, only his granddaughters are set to inherit his massive fortune…these are the heiresses. After the death of their cousin, the remaining heiresses try to figure out if the family curse is real or not, and if not, who killed their cousin, and more importantly, which one of them is next on the hit list?

I will be honest and say that I read many reviews of this book before reading it, and honestly many of them were not that great, but I decided to pick up this book anyway because I honestly needed this type of book. I know people say that all Sara's books are the same, they are have "rich" or "privileged" kids at the center, and there is always a murder or a mystery of some kind. This book is no different but the characters are a lot older and have very different problems.

I really enjoyed this book, and I think it was because I went into it knowing who the author was, and what her MO is when she is writing. I have not read all the PLL books, I have only read the first one, but honestly I loved it. It kept me reading and her writing was flirty and fun. The Heiresses is no different. This book is Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars and the writing is very similar, give or take a few steamy scenes. Other than that I can see very strong similarities, and I honestly did not mind one bit. Will you have a spiritual awakening while reading this book, probably not, but honestly not many books do. This book was exactly what I need when I read it, a light, fun and mysterious read that kept me reading all day.

The characters in this novel are very cut and dry, they are rich, they are privileged, and they have many many secrets. I think this is what I loved the most about this book, the secrets. There was no shortage of them for sure but they were meaty and delicious to read. I think what grabbed me the most while reading was that this book starts off with the funeral of a family member, and it was a murder. From then on I was hooked. I wanted to know who did it, and if it was anyone of the characters that I was introduced to. Then, a little while into the book something else happens that made me step back. I totally did not expect it and that was the reason I read the rest of this book in a manner of hours. I needed to know what happened and I was so relieved when, unlike in PLL, we find out who was responsible.

I think the only thing that bothered me while reading was the amount of characters that we are introduced to, especially in the first chapter. At the beginning it was hard to keep track of everyone, and how they were connected to each other, but honestly as time went on I got used to it, and the characters that mattered stuck in my brain. But I will also say that the end was a huge cliffhanger and honest I hate those! I really want to know what happened and I will tell you right now that I will pick up the next book because I am always in need of a great weekend read!

The King is dead, the Greatcoats have been disbanded, and Falcio Val Mond and his fellow magistrates Kest and Brasti have been reduced to working as bodyguards for a nobleman who refuses to pay them. Things could be worse, of course. Their employer could be lying dead on the floor while they are forced to watch the killer plant evidence framing them for the murder. Oh wait, that’s exactly what’s happening…

Now a royal conspiracy is about to unfold in the most corrupt city in the world. A carefully orchestrated series of murders that began with the overthrow of an idealistic young king will end with the death of an orphaned girl and the ruin of everything that Falcio, Kest, and Brasti have fought for. But if the trio want to foil the conspiracy, save the girl, and reunite the Greatcoats, they’ll have to do it with nothing but the tattered coats on their backs and the swords in their hands, because these days every noble is a tyrant, every knight is a thug, and the only thing you can really trust is a traitor’s blade.

I have always been a huge fan of historical fiction, I love the movies, TV shows and obviously books. That is why when I saw the synopsis for Traitors Blade I knew I had to read it, and I am so glad I did because it was a great read!

The first thing I noticed when I was reading was that it reminded me of The Three Musketeers, there were sword fighting, witty banter and a tragic back story that broke my heart. Falcio was a great character to narrate this story because he himself was not a complete character yet. There were holes in his personality, left after his wife died and we got to take the journey with him on healing and figuring what kind of man he wanted to be.

What I think I loved the most about this book were the secondary characters because they brought such life to the story. I found myself wishing there were more scenes where Falcio's friends were present because I found that the dialogue was a lot quicker and fast paced, with a lot of sarcasm. I did find that near the end the action got a little quiet and I found myself wanting a little more to grab my attention, but overall I blew through this book.

The world that was built in this book was incredible because it had real life elements combined with magic and great historic surroundings. I loved that although the magic was not the first thing you noticed but it kept me reading. I wanted to know what magic they would use next and on whom. I loved that the evil characters were not all evil and that the line was blurred for most of the book, with the real revelation at the end of the book, and I honestly did not see coming.

Overall this book was a great start to a brand new series that combines the magic of fantasy with the realism of historical fiction. I loved watching these character fight and learn more about their own lives and their own world and I cannot wait for this series to continue!

Emma wakes in a hospital, with no memory of what came before. Her husband, Declan, a powerful, seductive man, provides her with new memories, but her dreams contradict his stories, showing her a past life she can’t believe possible: memories of war, of a camp where girls are trained to be wives, of love for another man. Something inside her tells her not to speak of this, but she does not know why. She only knows she is at war with herself.

Suppressing those dreams during daylight hours, Emma lets Declan mold her into a happily married woman and begins to fall in love with him. But the day Noah stands before her, the line between her reality and dreams shatters.

In a future where women are a rare commodity, Emma fights for freedom but is held captive by the love of two men—one her husband, the other her worst enemy. If only she could remember which is which. . . .

The first novel in a two-part series, Archetype heralds the arrival of a truly memorable character—and the talented author who created her.

When I heard the hype behind this book I knew it was going to be different. Never have I heard a book get such good press since I heard about The 5th Wave last year. Archetype follows the story of a girl who wakes up not remembering anything about her life, and there is a man in front of her telling her she is his wife. She decides of believe him and then everything changes. She begins to have flashbacks, and they do not include so so-called husband but another man entirely. She much find out which reality is in fact and when she does everything she thought she knew falls to pieces.

This book was a slow start, and honestly I find that most great books are. You need a little set up before you as a reader must dive in and care about a character enough to feel what they are feeling and anticipate their future. The authors writing in this novel far surpassed any and all expectations I had going in. It was simplistic yet extremely descriptive and engaging. I felt that through M.D Waters writing that I felt as though I was a part of the story, waiting to find out what the future held for me. To me that is a sign of a great writer, someone who can make you care so deaply about a character that your heart starts racing when you know things are about to go down. That is exactly what happens in Archetype.

The flashbacks were essential to my adoration of this novel because it was what drew in. It was a mystery I wanted to crack, and I knew that I would have to wait to find out, but those flashback gave me glimpses and a chance to find out on my own. And I tried so hard to figure out what was happening and what the reveal would be, but I could not have picked this ending out of a lineup. It came out of nowhere for me, even though when I read the title it makes complete sense. But that is the beauty of this book, you forget everything you think you know and dive head first into this world that makes little sense.

The one thing I hate to read are books that have cliffhanger endings because I know I will have to wait until the next book to figure out what happens and I hate to say that this one had one hell of a cliffhanger. But to be fair, it makes sense for the progression of the novel, and it is not your ordinary cliffhanger, but none the less I did not like it! All I have to say is that I am glad that the second book is not too far away and I only have to wait until July to read the next one!

Today I am going to show you my Best of 2013 separated into specific genres, since I could seriously not chose only 10. Each book link will lead to you my review of that book, and if I haven't reviewed it yet, then the link will go to Goodreads! So enjoy!

This is a brand new segment I am starting where I feature a book a day, in the month of December, that I am looking forward to in 2014. It can be any book from any genre, from any author or publisher!

This is a great way for me to help you make you TBR pile bigger! And to share the books I cannot wait to read! Hope you enjoy!
