About the Author

Sarah Rees Brennan was born and raised in Ireland by the sea, where her teachers valiantly tried to make her fluent in Irish (she wants you to know it’s not called Gaelic) but she chose to read books under her desk in class instead. The books most often found under her desk were Jane Austen, Margaret Mahy, Anthony Trollope, Robin McKinley and Diana Wynne Jones, and she still loves them all today.

Description
Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.

But all that changes when the Lynburns return.

The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?

My Thoughts

I don't even know where to start! For one, the cover on this books is absolutely gorgeous. It has that element of small town with a twist of something suspisious as well, especially with the two faces in the gate. But enough about the cover art, what about the writing?

Well I have nothing but amazing things to say about that as well. It took no more than the first line to get me hooked into this story and I swear Sarah Rees Brennan made me lose countless hours of sleep because I could not put it down. I felt like I was being transported into this town in England where mysterious things happen when a old and very suspicious family moves back. I loved the scenery that was described, it was so vivid and captured my attention from the very beginning.

The characters were also another aspect that I loved! Jared and Kami's relationship was something I never expected. It was sweet and disturbing at the same time. As a reader you could tell them loved each other in a way no one else would ever understand but they also had this hatred for their situation that limited them on expression their true selves. The addition of The friends like Angela, Holly and Rusty make for some amazing dialogue with all of them being as witty as the two main characters. But what I found to be most interesting was Ash. His character was so simple in the beginning and he turned into something so much more that, and I can't wait to see where his character goes.

And the END! OMG what can I tell you about the end. All I will say is that it is heartbreaking and amazing and I had ALL THE FEELINGS!

Please read this book, it will not let you down!
