Description
Enter a tangled world of secrets and intrigue where a girl is in charge of other’s destinies, but not her own.

Sixteen-year-old Adelice Lewys has always been special. When her parents discover her gift—the ability to weave the very fabric of reality—they train her to hide it. For good reason, they don’t want her to become a Spinster — one of the elite, beautiful, and deadly women who determine what people eat, where they live, how many children they have, and even when they die.

Thrust into the opulent Western Coventry, Adelice will be tried, tested and tempted as she navigates the deadly politics at play behind its walls.  Now caught in a web of lies and forbidden romance, she must unravel the sinister truth behind her own unspeakable power.  Her world is hanging by a thread, and Adelice, alone, can decide to save it — or destroy it.

My Thoughts
I went into this book with high expectations, the concept looked great and I had heard great things about it. But I sadly felt it fell a little short.

The idea of certain girls, like the main character Adelice, being able to manipulate the strings of time that flow around them is a very interesting concept but a very complicated one to describe on paper. I found the further I went into the book the more confused I became in regards to the actual process of working on the fabrics of time. I didn't really understand how it worked or what it looked like. And that made it very hard to see in my mind.

I really liked the reason why there were certain girls that were able to control this aspect of time and why the government wants to control it. It was great way to built up a world and create a lot of tension. But I wanted more than I was given. I wanted more background on certain characters, like the head of the Conventry where Adelice was being held. She seemed like a very interesting character but we only saw the evil side that Adelice saw, and I know that there is more her than that.

The love was lackluster. Although the two love interests were both described as good looking and the kissing scenes were a plenty, I just felt like there was no chemistry between them. The way to create a good love story is tension and there was none, it was almost instantaneous and a little unreliable as far a story lines go.

Overall I wanted more. I wanted more action, more character development and more intrigue. I hate to say that this book let me down, but it did, and I am questioning whether or not to continue with the series.

2.5/5 Stars

  1. I've heard so many disappointing things about this book :( It's making me very reluctant to pick it up off my shelf and finally read it. And I hate when there's no chemistry between romantic interests! Especially if there are 2 interests!

  2. I'm sorry to hear you were so disappointed. I really liked this book. The concept was so unique and fascinating, I couldn't get enough of it. The romance did spoil a lot, I agree. There was no chemistry at all and I didn't get the whole love-triangle.

    Nice review :)
