Description

Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

My Thoughts

How can I begin to describe how much I loved this book. Not only is the premise of this book very original but the plot line and writing itself is done quite well. We start off being introduced to Addie, who lives in a closed off compound that is top secret for the reason of its citizens having special powers. Addie being one of them. She is able to see her future when given a choice. This is where things get interesting, when her parents tell her that they are getting divorced Addie is faced with the choice of who to live with; Her Father who will live in the "Normal" world or her Mother who will stay in the compound.

The way the story is presented in quite well done as well, with alternating chapters that depict each life she chose. So not only do you fall in love with one set of characters but you get a very different view of those same characters in different chapters which make you question your opinion of them.

We meet Addie's best friend Laila at the very begining of the story and she is quite a character. She is fun and full of life, but when we see what happens to her in each of Addie's life choices you begin to wonder. And then we meet Duke, the star quaterback of the football team who seems to be perfect in every way, maybe too perfect. But when we enter the life of the "Norms" as they call them, we meet a whole onlsought of different characters that make you wonder which life Addie will chose. Like Trevor, the former star of the football team, until he hurt his shoulder. I fell in love with Trevor right away, not only because he tall, dark and handsome. But because he is sweet and generous and was genuinely nice.

I did find that Addie was a little too naive in this book, I found that her view of her relationship with Trevor was very innocent and I didn't quite believe that she would only think of him as a friend and nothing more. But it did add a little something extra to the story. ALSO, another thing that took me by surprise was the mystery element of the story. It passed through each potential future, and made for an extra element that made me want to read further. And the climax at the end broke my heart because it happened in each potential future and for different reasons. And that was why I loved this book so much, because the end seemed realistic and not tied up with a bow.

Amazing debut!

4/5 Stars!
