Description

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

My Thoughts

I was late coming into this series, I read Cinder at the end of last year and I am very glad that I did because when I received Scarlet I was even more excited to read it. Scarlet starts off pretty much right where Cinder ends and what I loved most was the inclusion of the new characters. Don't get me wrong, I loved Cinder and Kai and everyone else in between, but the inclusion of Scarlet and Wolf was amazing. Their characters brought in so much personality and sarcasm that I fell in love with them right away.

I loved that all the characters were present throughout the novel, but that Scarlet's story was the main focus. Her character was very different from Cinder yet they had a lot in common. They both were trying to find something/someone and no one would help them. They are both strong female characters (which should be represented more often in YA) and they both fall for the wrong guy ;)

Wolf on the other hand was a mystery from the very beginning and I loved that so much. I loved that we found out certain aspects of his character along with Scarlet. We never knew things before she did and it felt like she was a part of our reading experience. This aspect made me relate to her and Wolf more than I did Cinder and Kai.

The mystery in this novel goes from beginning to end, with some steamy moments in between ;), and the pace of this novel made me want Cress even more now than I did before I started the book. I love that Marissa Meyer is creating a whole new world with characters that many of us have grown up loving and idealizing (to a certain point) and made us fall in love with them all over again. This was an amazing sequel that deserves a second read, if not a third!

5/5 Stars
