Description

Rory Miller had one chance to fight back and she took it. Rory survived… and the serial killer who attacked her escaped. Now that the infamous Steven Nell is on the loose, Rory must enter the witness protection with her father and sister, Darcy, leaving their friends and family without so much as a goodbye.

Starting over in a new town with only each other is unimaginable for Rory and Darcy. They were inseparable as children, but now they can barely stand each other. As the sisters settle in to Juniper Landing, a picturesque vacation island, it seems like their new home may be just the fresh start they need. They fall in with a group of beautiful, carefree teens and spend their days surfing, partying on the beach, and hiking into endless sunsets. But just as they’re starting to feel safe again, one of their new friends goes missing. Is it a coincidence? Or is the nightmare beginning all over again?

My Thoughts

What a creepy book! From the very first chapter I was hooked onto this creepy tale of a girl escaping the hands of a serial killer. I have never read anything from Kate Brian before, I was always hesitant because The Private series did not seem like my kind of series at all, and when I saw that this book was coming out I thought I would give it a try. And I am very glad that I did because it did not disappoint.

What I loved most about this book was the atmosphere and the world that Kate Brian created. When Rory, her dad and sister enter the witness protection program you knew something was fishy, and you don't find out what that it until the very end of the book. BUT the thing that made this aspect of the book so fascinating were the secondary characters. Yes, I thought that the main characters played a large part in driving the plot forward but for me, I thought it was the secondary characters that played a larger role in the overall feel of the book. They were mysterious, good looking and hilarious at times. The dialogue was witty and smart and made me cry, laugh and throw the book across the room from creepiness.

Now I have to talk about...THE END because WTH!!! I don't know about anyone else, but I did not see that coming and it was probably one of the best twists I have read in a LONG TIME. It sets up a very interesting scenario for the next book and I cannot wait to see where Kate Brian is going to take this series. It was Amazing! please pick it up if you have the chance, but beware: if ghosts, serial killers or just overall creepiness bother you, then read during the day only!

4/5 Stars
