Description
A teen girl unravels the mysteries of a secret society and their most dangerous invention in this adventure-swept romance set in Victorian London.

When a fire consumes Meg’s home, killing her parents and destroying both her fortune and her future, all she has left is the tarnished pocket watch she rescued from the ashes. But this is no ordinary timepiece. The clock turns out to be a mechanical key—a key that only Meg can use—that unlocks a series of deadly secrets and intricate clues that Meg is compelled to follow.

Meg has uncovered evidence of an elite secret society and a dangerous invention that some will stop at nothing to protect—and that Meg alone can destroy. Together with the handsome stable hand she barely knows but hopes she can trust, Meg is swept into a hidden world of deception, betrayal, and revenge. The clockwork key has unlocked her destiny in this captivating start to a trilogy.

My Thoughts
I am not the most familiar with the Steampunk genre. And I will be the first to say that I am always hesitant with this genre because sometimes I feel like I am missing something. But while reading Legacy of the Clockwork Key I never felt confused or disoriented. I was transfixed by the writing and the story line. It was captivtaing while satisfying my need for romance :)

We meet Meg, a young girl who is orphaned by a tragic fire and left with only one memento; a watch. But as it turns out this memento is way more than she ever thought. And when she meets Will (lets all swoon over the name!) everything goes into a tornado of secrets and lies that lead to an end that no one expects.

I have to say that I absolutely loved this book. Not only were the characters real and engaging but the mystery aspect of the story was fantastic. Her relationship with Will was one of my favorites because it was so raw and frustrating. She was portrayed as a real young woman who has no idea how a guy feels, even when it is completely obvious to the reader. I loved that she was flawed, that she made mistakes and took ownership of them. I also loved her love for her family, and the decision she makes at the end that, although a little unbelievable, was very heartbreaking.

The steampunk aspect of this book was fantastic, the inventions and gismos that were created were so imaginative that I could actually picture them in my mind. The details that were put into this novel was incredible and I feel like there is an amazing potential here for the next big series in YA.

Overall I would say that this book is perfect for any fans of steampunk and YA. There is a romance that starts very early, but it is subtle enough that it doesn't overtake the story itself. I loved it.
