If fate sent you an email, would you answer?

When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O'Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds.

Then Graham finds out that Ellie's Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media's spotlight at all costs?

My Thoughts

As you may know, I have not been a huge fan of contemporary YA, especially since I started blogging, so when I received a copy of This is What Happy Looks Like I was skeptical. I loved the cover and the concept seemed really cute, so I picked it up. AND I am so glad I did! Not only was it cute and adorable but it made me fall in love with contemporary all over again!

This is What Happy Looks Like follows two teens, Graham and Ellie. But their story is not your average love at first sight, it was love at first email. A mistaken email encounter brings these two unlikely people together and their journey is filled with gossip, drama and difficult emotions.  Graham is a movie star and Ellie is a small town Candy Shop worker. They should never have met, and they should never have fallen in love...but sometimes you can't control everything.

This book was a very fast read, one that I finished in just one day, on transit, in between working 8 hours :)It was fantastic. Not overly dramatic, the conflict between the two main characters was realistic and done very well. I loved the chemistry between Graham and Ellie, especially at the beginning within their emails.

Now that I have finished this book, I really want to read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. I think I have found my new favorite Contemporary author :)

  2. Like you I'm not a huge contemporary YA fan. But when I read Statistical Probability I fell head over heels for it. So adorable. I just started TIWHLL yesterday and so far it is every bit as cute as her first book!

  3. I'm not a fan of contemporary like you, so I'm happy that you liked it. That means I might end up liking this one too and I've been searching for a good contemporary :) I like the idea of falling in love with someone you aren't meant to fall for. Great review!
