To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness…

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for…again.

My Thoughts

I really have no idea why it took me so long to read this book. I think it is because I am not the biggest fan of vampires since the whole Twilight saga happened. But I will tell you this right now. This is not your tipical vampire book, and it is so much more.

What I loved most about this book was the main character. Allison was a fighter, and scavenger and a survivor. So when she is turned into the one thing she hates the most, things get interesting. She loses everything she ever loved, and has to fight against a psychotic vampire that is deemed to make her life hell.

Throughout the course of the book you see Allison transform. She becomes this badass fighter who doesnt care what the stigma is, she doesnt care what people think of her. She wants to be more than just a vampire and she wants to hold onto to any shred of humanity that is left inside of her. She is such a redeamable character that you cannot help but love her.

Her relationships are very interesting in this book, especially with Zeke, the human she meets on her travels. He is so sweet and selfless and his passion for Allison is clear from the very beginning. I really loved their slow moving romance, and the fact that it didn't appear until the very end of the book. It allowed us to get to know Allison as a person before we see her through the eyes of someone else.

An amazing read that any vampire or non vampire lover will love!
